Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

According to today's New York Times, "After his second rehabilitation start against a minor league team Tuesday, Pedro Martínez said he was pushing for a return to the Mets after his next start. But before leaving Tradition Field, he said it might take three more starts for him to be ready."

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

From what I've read, he'll next start will be his last in Pt. St. Lucie. After that he would get another start for either Double-A Binghampton or Triple-A New Orleans. Then after that, he could join the big league Mets.

Pedro does want to start one more rehab game and then go straight to the Mets.

We'll see who wins out lol

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

Pedro made a start on Monday for the St. Lucie Mets. He threw 72 pitches in five innings, gave up two hits (two unearned runs), walked one and struck out four.

Quote:
According to one eye witness, Martinez had a very impressive sinker, which resulted in two double play ground balls, and he reached 89 mph with his fastball on a number of occasions, up from his last outing, ‘while sitting at 86 mph most of the night.’
Pedro is slated to make his possibly final minor league rehab outing on Sunday.

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

Willie Randolph told ESPN this evening Pedro will likely rejoin the team during the first week of September. That means he'll start roughly two more games in the minors before being activated.

I wonder what the holdup has been or are they just being cautious with him..

Re: Pedro Martinez Rehab Assignment

I think they're just being cautious with him. There's no dire need to get him up to the majors ASAP so IMO, they're just making sure he feels great after his starts. His last start, he pitched well so it's not like he's been awful.

But we must remember, he's been pitching against minor leaguers. Players always say once you get into a major league game, and the adrenaline is pumping, it's a whole new ballgame.
