According to a recent article by the New York Post, there may be a bit of a rift between Mets manager Willie Randolph and the team's GM, Omar Minaya. As the paper reported, it was the firing of Rick Down that was the major issue. "Down was fired Wednesday, and Minaya and Randolph disagreed on that call. The GM exerted his authority, with Randolph on Thursday calling the firing 'an organizational decision.' He also said Thursday he told Minaya: 'I said that if you want to make the decision, you're the general manager. You can make that decision.'" So, is there friction among the Mets' dynamic duo?

Personally, I think it's just some in the media looking for a story.

Obviously it was a bit odd that a day after Down was fired, there was still no officially named hitting coach. But Minaya said it was Randolph's call to name Howard Johnson the new hitting coach.

I kid, but you know what they say - where there's smoke, there's fire. So maybe there is something to this.
