Through the 2007 All-Star Break, the New York Mets are 48-39, in first place and two games ahead of the Atlanta Braves.

In July they are 2-6. They open up the second half at home against the Reds before a west coast trip to San Diego and Los Angeles.

Tom Glavine is 7-6 in 2007 and still three games away from his 300th career victory.

Moises Alou has only played 30 games. Endy Chavez played 47 games. Jose Valentin played 44 games. Alou is slated to return in several weeks. Chavez is expected back sometime in August. Lastings Milledge only played in 3 games in the majors and is expected to return (after a series of injuries) to the big leagues after the All-Star Break.

Pedro Martinez is expected back anytime from August to September. His road is a long one to the mound at Shea. The Mets hope he'll be in Pedro-form by the time the playoffs roll around.

Even though they're 9 games over .500, many fans have criticized the team at various points this year. Whether it's the slumping Carlos Delgado, the mediocre offense or a few off the field worries, Mets fans have been anything but thrilled this year. Nevertheless, the Mets remain in first place.

Alou was ana wful signing, just because you know he will be on the DL all year. Pedro will never pitch again in my opinion, and if he does, it won't be for long.

Hindsight is 20/20 as far as Alou goes.

As for Pedro, he's already been pitching (albeit as part of his rehab) but I don't see why anyone would doubt whether he can ever return to the majors.

I think I may have to agree with Legend on this one. How is it hindsight when he has been hurt for the last couple years. Last 2 years have been really bad with injuries and this year he is over 40. How could they not expect him to be hurt. I hope they didn't pay him too much.

As for Pedro, from what I have been reading, he will get back to the majors, but he will not be the same pitcher. He supposedly has lost a lot off his fastball. Hopefully he can learn how to be more of a pitcher. I always liked him. I would like to see him a few more years.

Alou I believe was signed to a one year deal which is why I had no problem with the signing.

As for Pedro, Newsday reported last week he threw a 50 pitch simulated game. He will resume his rehab this week and could begin rehab starts ASAP.

He's right on track.

Pedro is a pitchers pitcher. He's a master of the craft and he has such great control over his pitches. If anything after getting "fixed", he should be even better.
