Tough outing for the returning Dave Williams yesterday. As the Bergen Record put it, "Just hours removed from a 17-inning marathon, the Mets handed the ball to Dave Williams with a simple request -- throw strikes, go long and let the rest of the team get a breather. Williams barely made it out of the first inning and was gone before the fourth inning was done as the Mets crumbled, 8-3, to the Astros." I read elsewhere that Williams was considered a fringe Major Leaguer to begin with. What's the story with him?

For the Pirates about 3 years ago, he was actually pretty good. Something must be very wrong with this guy. Otherwise, he'd be in the Majors in a rotation and not just an emergency starter.

He just came off of neck surgery and this was his first MLB start this season.

He was pretty good last season for the Mets in the few starts he had. Mets fans will chalk it up to being his first MLB start after neck surgery.
