| NY calls up Sandy Alomar Jr. Talk about a blast from the past! The Mets have called up 41-year-old catcher Sandy Alomar Jr and sent down pitcher Jason Vargas. According to what Assistant GM John Ricco told the New York Post, the move was made "'to get another bat in here' and also to protect the team with Paul Lo Duca's suspension-appeal hearing tomorrow." Can this guy still play at 41, especially a position as demanding as catcher?

| Re: NY calls up Sandy Alomar Jr. Love of the game, I guess. What I can't get over is a guy playing catcher at 41. I'm younger than that and my knees are shot to the point where I can barely kneel down at church let alone sit in the catcher's squat for nine innings of baseball! |

| Re: NY calls up Sandy Alomar Jr. He was expecting to retire before the season, accepted an invite to Mets spring training and decided he still wanted to play. So he's spent the past couple of months in the minors waiting for a call-up. He'll play a game or two if Lo Duca's suspension holds up but I doubt this matters much. |

Hwo does the Alomar family rate among the best baseball families of the game? |
