The news came out sometime late Wednesday that Willie Randolph plans to have shoulder surgery during the All-Star break. It seems as though it's not one major injury but rather just sevral nagging problems with the shoulder. Randolph said he would have it cleaned out during the break and return in time for start for the second half of the season.

One place I read said he may need to keep an arm in a sling for a few days or weeks as it heals.

Also, this means he won't be able to attend and act as coach for the National League in the All-Star Game.

Bad idea to get this surgery done during the season. I mean, it's going to be hard for him to do his job in a sling. He's only going to be able to call for one type of pitcher, either a right-hander or a lefty. And it's really going to limit what he can do when he gets into an umpire's face. I just hope it's not his scratching arm. What would he do then?

LOL...hopefully trying to call for either a lefty/righty pitcher out of the pen is the worst of his problems in the coming months.

Perhaps it will stop him from calling out Scott Schoenweis so this surgery might have an upside to it!
