Mets vs. Athletics

Having already won on Friday and Saturday, the Mets are looking to sweep the Athletics (and former New York catcher Mike Piazza) today. Currently the Mets have a 5-2 lead on the A's in the 7th inning, thanks largely to Damion Easley's two RBI. New York has already won their first series in their last seven, and I can't even tell you when their last sweep was. So, is the slump officially over if they do indeed earn the win today?

Re: Mets vs. Athletics

Well it sure looks like the sweep is all but official. The Mets lead 10-2 heading into the 8th or 9th.

The Cardinals come to Shea for a four game set (and then a weekend series in Philly which includes a double header on Friday), so let's talk in about a week after the Mets play so many games.

But Glavine, Maine and El Duque sure did pitch great games in this series. Pitching is always a catalyst for winning.

Re: Mets vs. Athletics

A lot of teams seem to break their losing slide with an amazing series ala the Yankees only to seemingly go back to their losing ways soon enough. I hope the Mets continue on with the success they had against the Athletics. What I liked is that they were scoring runs which in recent times have been scarce for the Amazin's. Pitchers had to practically hurl a shutout to win and it was rough.
