Glavine gets hammered

Wow, did Tom Glavine ever get shelled yesterday. Sure wish I'd have benched him in the fantasy league.

The Associated Press sums it up best: " Tom Glavine had one of the worst outings of his stellar career against baseball's highest-scoring team... Gary Sheffield contributed to Glavine's rough day with a homer and an RBI triple Sunday, helping the Detroit Tigers beat up the New York Mets 15-7 and win the series... Glavine (5-4) gave up nine earned runs for just the second time, matching the career-high total he allowed eight years ago."

He has little velocity...so when his pitches are off, he is going to get hammered...I am suprised he is not hammered more often these days.

Re: Glavine gets hammered

Oooh... my Yahoo fantasy team took a whopper of a beating yesterday. Sheesh.... Thankfully, Garland, Hill, and Harang gave strong performances over the weekend.

Re: Glavine gets hammered

It's strange because Glavine hasn't won a game since May 19th. That's nearly a month ago. Since then he's pitched some nice ballgames but the run support hasn't been there to back him up.

Re: Glavine gets hammered

I am about to put him on the scrap heap in my keeper league. He had a nice ERA and WHIP last year. If he has one more bad start, he is gone.

Re: Glavine gets hammered

I seriously don't think Glavine is gonna get 300 wins this year...in fact the way he's pitching he might not get them at all. Father Time may have caught up with him finally.

Re: Glavine gets hammered

I think the interleague games have thrown him off.... The powerful AL lineups (like New York and Detroit) are too much for his "not-so-overpowering" pitching style.

Re: Glavine gets hammered

Last night they said a comment that Glavine is feeling fine, that he's just not hitting his spots. Sounds like a slump but that's nothing new for the Mets lately. Nobody is playing well, pitching, hitting, defense. I would think this happens to every team during the long season though and I certainly don't expect them to stay in this losing mode. I said from the get go that Moises Alou was a broken down waste of money and he sure is.
