| Mets Swept for First Time The Phillies did something no other team in the sport has done in 2007, swept the New York Mets in a three game series. The Phillies played good ball over the past three nights, jumping on Mets mistakes. The bullpen pitched poorly including meltdowns from Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoenweis and even (prior to last night, the dominant) Billy Wagner.
Even on Thursday night, a game where the Mets hit back-to-back-to-back home runs, couldn't pull the game in. Pat Burrell came off the bench in the 9th to tie the game up and they won soon thereafter.
Still, the Mets are sitting atop the division. However, Endy Chavez is out and likely going to be placed on the DL (strained/possibly torn hammy two nights ago) and Moises Alou is still out. Lastings Milledge is still out in Triple-A (no news on when he'll be back) and Shawn Green is out as well, on the disabled list. Carlos Gomez and Ben Johnson are expected to get the majority of the LF/RF starts in the meantime with David Newhan sprinkled in. Not quite the line-up that will impose fear in upcoming series' against the Tigers and Yanks. |
