| Mets 5 Run 9th Caps Cubs Here's the scene...12 hours after beating the Cubs in a rain delayed game, the Mets took the field on Thursday afternoon fielding a back-up team for the most part. Jason Vargas was called up to start and the only real starters playing were Carlos Delgado and Shawn Green (Beltran, Reyes, Wright, Lo Duca all sat).
The Cubs took a 5-1 lead in the game after two two-run HRs from Angel Pagan and Aramis Ramirez. So fast forward to the 9th inning and the bases loaded with Carlos Beltran at the plate. Dempster walks him and the lead is only three runs. Ruben Gotay is up next (Willie decides not to pinch it with Reyes) and he hits a RBI single. David Wright pinch hits next and rips another RBI single. The score is 5-4 with the bases loaded and 1 out. Carlos Delgado rips a single to the right side and Endy Chavez (tying run) and Gotay (winning run) score to win the game.
MAJOR comeback win as the Mets head into the Subway Series this weekend. |
