Flip Bondy penned a column today ripping on the Mets for their "stance" on steroids and the Lastings Milledge situation.
For those who don't know, Milledge caused another uproar in the Met family when it was discovered he recorded a rap song (I believe he owns his own label...lol) which contained offensive lyrics to women. Omar Minaya sat him down and told him the organization's position on it and they don't like it one bit.
As for the steroid stuff, minor league reliever Lino Urdaneta was just suspended 50-games this week for testing positive. Reliver Guillermo Mota is slated to return in a couple of weeks after serving his 50-game suspension.
Now with this, I don't know what to say. I don't feel the Mets are "enablers" as Bondy is saying because it's not like they're running from anything. Mota made a mistake, he owned up to it and accepted his punishment. Should the Mets blackball him?
With Milledge, part of me says it's just the media and folks just looking to find something wrong with him. Right now, he's on the Triple-A DL I believe. There's no question he has the talent but it looks like he may meltdown in NYC before he gets a chance to show it. I hope not.
