New York Mets Pitching Thread

Anyone think Pelfrey is not ready yet to be major league pitcher? Or at the very least a starter? I know now their options are limited but he's young and he needs work. Maybe as a middle reliever? Maybe. Aaron Heilman is turning out to be a one season wonder while were on the topic of poor pitching.

Re: New York Mets Pitching Thread

He needs some work but it's not like he's lasting two innings and giving up ten runs. You'd like to see him limit the balls more (out of 87 pitches yesterday, 52 were strikes). I can see Randolph giving him another start before considering whether or not to send him back to the minors.

As for Jorge Sosa, he's been very good in two starts so far. The core of the rotation is still very good, too, with Glavine, Maine and Perez.

Yes the core of the rotation is good i'll agree with that though i'm not sold on Sosa. As fo Mike Pelfrey, presently if the Mets have a good game he pitches well enough to keep them in it but he's not a guy who's gonna go out there and get you a win, yet. Still though he's young and the pressure of being a staring pitcher is pressure indeed. I thought maybe a middle relief role would provide Pelfrey with enough work to hone his skills till he gradually works his way into the starting rotation. When Pedro and El Duque returns that might happen. I think it would be a good move. Hey look at Brandon Looper's success on the World Champs and he was a reliever!

Do you know when Pedro Martinez will be returning? His contract is sort of wasted due to his inactivity with the Mets.

Come on Marc, no way is Pedro's contract a waste. Even if he was never to pitch another inning, it was a change in culture.

In any event, he's expected back before the end of Summer. I'd think August. Definitely after the ASB though.

Re: New York Mets Pitching Thread

Mike Pelfrey sent to New Orleans for some more seasoning. I really couldn't see any way around that considering his struggles. He could be a starter on the Marlins but not the Mets. He's young and has potential still, I think one day he'll be good.

Two bad starts in a row for John Maine and he is having major trouble with the long ball. Is this a temporary funk or has the clock struck 12 for Cinderella if you get my drift? Your thoughts gentlemen?

Actually one could argue three but still I hope Maine finds some answers soon.

Braves continue to have the Mets number. It figures the one team Kyle Davies can pitch well against...

That Kyle Davies kid has OWNED the Mets ever since he came up to the big leagues.

The Mets have got to beat the Braves...it's a good chance they meet in the playoffs.

Yeah, perhaps the Braves have returned back to prominence quicker than anyone thought.
