Re: New York Mets Pitching Thread

Oliver Perez is clearly the ace of the staff when he's on.

And what can we say about Wagner? As you said...perfection!

I'm happy for Perez. He was sharp when he was in Pittsburgh but lost his way somehow. I was hoping he'd rebound and sure enough he has.

When he was traded, the NY Media was saying how the Pirates Organization attempted to turn him into a finnese pitcher and it never worked out. As a matter of fact, he regressed.

Oliver Perez just didn't fit in the Pirates organization. He needed to pitch for a contender to stay motivated and now it looks like Perez may be the Mets ace. Talk about a good deal to get him, wasn't he just a throw in? It never ceases to amaze me how Omar Minaya can get these players in trades that teams don't mind parting with as a bonus and he sees something special in them and it turns out to be true.

Well, let's not pat Minaya too much on the back for getting Perez. It was in the middle of (yet another) Pirates fire sale.

Yes you're right about that Lefty but Omar does deserve credit for cherry picking the gems in those Pittsburgh fire sales. Great GM!

Where would the Mets be without him?

Re: New York Mets Pitching Thread

Think about it, if Duaner Sanchez never goes on that foolish twilight "snack run" in Miami last year late in July, Oliver Perez would probably still be dwindling in the Pittsburgh minor league system.

Xavier Nady for Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez...I know some fans didn't like it when it happened b/c Nady was a fine player and 'Berto turned out to be pretty much not important at all but Ollie has been a steal!

Plus, they got Shawn Green to replace Nady.
