Tom Glavine Wins 294th Game

He was finally able to get a W tonight thanks to a great seven inning, one run performance. He struck out five and the only run he gave up was a Barry Bonds solo home run.

Six more wins to go until the 300 mark.

Will he be the last one to make this list? I don't know if Randy Johnson will make it.

There's a good chance that he could be the last one. With pitchers not going as far in games as they used to and five player rotations, it could be a rare thing in the future for a player to get 300 wins.

I'm glad Glavine is making his way to 300. He deserves recognition. He has been a great pitcher for a long time.

Re: Tom Glavine Wins 294th Game

The list of active players near the mark...

Randy Johnson 280 It's possible if he plays long enough
Mike Mussina 240 I doubt it
Jamie Moyer 219 no chance
Curt Schilling 211 no chance
Kenny Rogers 207 no chance
Pedro Martinez 206 no chance
Tim Hudson is only 31 and has 122 wins...possibly a contender

I jsut picked up Moyer for a one game stint in the GTG league...the guy is 44!...We talk about the Rocket...but freakin Moyer is 44 and still going...and four 15 win seasons out of Moose is not out of the question.

I know Johan Santana's very young, but how many career wins is he sitting on?

Re: Tom Glavine Wins 294th Game

Santana is 28 years old and is sitting on 82 wins to date. If he plays for until he is 40, he would have to win 18 +/- games a year to make 300 career wins.

Now, Carlos Zambrano is 25 years old and he is sitting on 67 career wins. Over the last 4 years he has averaged 15 wins. He would have to win about 15 games a year until he is 40 also to hit 300.

Re: Tom Glavine Wins 294th Game

He doesn't deserve to hit 300.

How about Felix Hernandez?

Re: Tom Glavine Wins 294th Game

I didn't realize Mussina was that close. If he stays healthy, he should make it fairly easily playing with the Yankees. Johnson only needs 20 more wins. I don't think he can make it this year. Does he have enough to go another year.

What about HOF chances. Do pitchers like Pedro and Schilling get in without the magic number of wins. They are greats, but do they get in if they don't at least get to 250??

Pedro yes...dominated over a 5-6 year stretch great winning PCT, k's, ERA etc...

Schilling is a few quality seasons short...

Who? Doesn't matter... if a guy wins 300, he wins 300. He's obviously earned it.
