| Omar Minaya Tampering While the Mets were taking batting practice and the Marlins were stretching, Mets General Manager Omar Minaya engaged third baseman Miguel Cabrera in about a 10-minute conversation. Per Major League Baseball directive, it was tampering. Was Minaya recruiting Cabrera, a free agent after the 2009 season? Of course not, but the subject matter is irrelevant. MLB prohibits fraternizing among players when they are in uniform. It happens anyway, but rarely do you see front office personnel conversing with opposing players save for cursory greetings. | Re: Omar Minaya Tampering This is ridiculous. They were talking about it on the WFAN broadcast and they mentioned that earlier in the season Cabrera was stretching with the Mets! If the team or Omar get fined it will be a sad double standard. |

Tampering? I'm sure the conversation was friendly. However, the rules are the rules. |
