Omar Minaya Tampering

While the Mets were taking batting practice and the Marlins were stretching, Mets General Manager Omar Minaya engaged third baseman Miguel Cabrera in about a 10-minute conversation. Per Major League Baseball directive, it was tampering. Was Minaya recruiting Cabrera, a free agent after the 2009 season? Of course not, but the subject matter is irrelevant. MLB prohibits fraternizing among players when they are in uniform. It happens anyway, but rarely do you see front office personnel conversing with opposing players save for cursory greetings.

Re: Omar Minaya Tampering

This is ridiculous. They were talking about it on the WFAN broadcast and they mentioned that earlier in the season Cabrera was stretching with the Mets! If the team or Omar get fined it will be a sad double standard.

This is definitely a non story IMO. So the guy was talking with a player from the other team. I'm sure most guys/coaches/execs converse before the game if they see each other. But I guess MLB has to protect against any questionable acts that can occur...but still.

Cabrera would be nice in LF, even though he wouldn't be able to play 3rd.

Tampering? I'm sure the conversation was friendly. However, the rules are the rules.

I agree. I think MLB and the media are making a big deal out of nothing. I mean who knows? They could have been talking about aquarium mantience for all we know.

Cool Re: Omar Minaya Tampering

Maybe they'll give him a slap on the wrist just to make a point. But it's nothing.

Agreed. Who can argue this conclusion?
