Re: David Wright...Overrated???

He commented on this the other day cause he has been getting some bad press for doing photo shoots and stuff while people think he should be trying to get out of his "slump". His response was that he is young and single so instead of being out with his family he is out doing photo shoots and the like. Kinda interesting

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

It's just a funk. He'll get out of it eventually, it's just a matter of when. He had two hits last night so maybe that's a positive sign of things to come.

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

I really want to see that first homerun though. I'm getting a little worried about that even in the non-steroid era where homers will be down. Also those strikeouts! I actually checked however his stats and he doesn't strikeout more than Beltran or Delgado as of now. That's strange cuz it seems he's striking out every time he's at the plate.

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

A rule of thumb is that you take the second half numbers and double it and that's what he projects for this year...how was his power numbers over the second half of the year?

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

The second half last year, his power numbers were down. Most people pin it on his involvement in the home run derby.

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

Remeber when Reggie Jackson had 37 HRs at the all star break and hit for like a couple more and that was it? I guess things like Wright's second half of 2006 happen.

Based on his sharp drop off in the 2nd half and his ultra sluggish start...I would project 18-22 Hrs...I think there is more to it then the derby.

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

David Wright is classified as a 25-35 HR athlete.

This year, he will be hitting close to the 25 mark.

For projections, you can subscribe to ForeCaster.

And their projection is better because?...

In theory he should be a 25-35 player...based on his nose dive in the 2nd half and how he got out of the gate this year...I would adjust the totals...he will be lucky to get 25...I still say he is right now, at best, an 18-22 HR player...

ForeCaster is paid big bucks for their predictions.

18-22 HRs is not great, these days.

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

20+ HRs is fine, although he will hit more as he gets in his zone. He should find that zone eventually and go on a tear. The Mets line-up is too good for him not to.

Re: David Wright...Overrated???

It's just that people in NY were comparing him to A-Rod last year, mostly because Rodriguez had an off year and Wright was streaking in the first half but lets face it...Wright is no A-Rod. He's more Jeter if anything.
