Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez

The two top Mets position prospects (not considering Milledge a prospect now) are outfielders Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez. An update from MetsBlog says both are starting their respective minor league seasons hot with the bat.

Gomez in Triple-A New Orleans is 10 for 28 with 5 extra base hits (one triple), 5 stolen bases, 5 R and 4 RBI.

Martinez in Double-A Binghamton is 6 for 17, with a double, triple, HR and 3 R and 1 RBI.

This should be a story worth following. Along with Milledge, the three outfielders are young and have a ton of potential. It's possible that should a worthy pitcher become available at some point in the Summer, Omar Minaya could dangle one of them as trade bait. Just a possibility is all I'm saying.

Re: Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez

Why in Martinez in AA? He should definitely be in AAA with those impressive numbers.

The difference between the two nowadays isn't that much.

I remember it being said that sometimes, being in AA is better because that's where the majority of the top talent is. AAA turned into a sort of AAAA for older players and career minor leaguers if you know what I mean.

Re: Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez

But aren't prospects usually called up from AAA, and not AA? I always thought of it as a company heirarchy.
