Tom Glavine to start opening day

Pedro Martinez bowed out of his expected Opening Day start on April 3rd at Shea. The plan is for Glavine to start the season and Pedro could pitch as early as April 5th.

Re: Tom Glavine to start opening day

I heard Pedro was going to miss his Opening Day start. Is it the toe?

Re: Tom Glavine to start opening day

I'd figure it as more of the fact that his whole program has been delayed a bit. He's first going to make a spring training start this Sunday. It's a matter of giving him as much time as possible to get ready.

Hopefully the toe doesn't act up during the season to a serious extent.

Re: Tom Glavine to start opening day

Glavine did his job well earlier today. Earned his 276th career victory.

Billy Wagner closed the game out in tremendous fashion with a great defensive throw from Beltran to Hernandez @ 2nd.

Re: Tom Glavine to start opening day

Glavine pitched a lot better than I expected, Empire. Think he can keep it up?

Re: Tom Glavine to start opening day

There's no reason to think he can't. He was in the 2nd half last year. He seems to be free of whatever bothered him in his first year in NY.
