Mets Prospects Make Waves

A piece by Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal....just an excerpt below (and a great one at that lol)

Quote:
Imagine a 6-foot-4 outfielder who is faster than Jose Reyes.

The Mets have him.

Now imagine an 18-year-old outfielder whose pure hitting ability is reminiscent of a young Manny Ramirez.

The Mets have him, too.

Mets officials like to debate which Dominican native will become a better player — Carlos Gomez, 21, or Fernando Martinez, 18.

Gomez is taller and faster, Martinez the more advanced hitter. Both could be with the Mets by the time they open their new ballpark in 2009, flanking center fielder Carlos Beltran.

Of course, prospects are just prospects until they prove themselves at the major-league level. But the buzz over Gomez and Martinez only figures to increase.
Wow is all I have to say. Yes they're just prospects but they've been receiving an ever increasing amount of hype for at least two years now and it looks like it will only grow.

Re: Mets Prospects Make Waves

The Mets don't need to worry about the future, according to this article.

Will they be in camp this spring? I would like to see for myself.

Re: Mets Prospects Make Waves

I believe they both will be in camp. Martinez I know played in the winter leagues (one of the youngest players to ever do so).

I'm fairly certain Gomez is in camp though.
