David Wright Stays Humble

I like this article from Newsday, it's regarding David Wright and his evergrowing self into New York (sports) superstardom. He's done a lot off the field in the past couple of years but he understands he still has a lot to improve on, on the field. He cites Derek Jeter as a sort of role model as far as becoming a celebrity in NY and still handling your baseball business.

Some Wright quotes:

"Mets fans aren't going to like to hear this, but Jeter's the guy," Wright said. "Jeter is the prime example. He always takes care of business. He always prepares for the year, but also he has fun. He does some of the things off the field that are privileges you get to do in New York."

"Honestly, during the season, I very rarely go out," Wright said. "I'm not a big club guy, so I don't really go to the hot spots and stuff like that. I like to go out and have a good time, but very low key."

"Granted, I'm 24 yrs old, I'm going to do what a lot of 24-year-olds do. But in the back of my mind, I ask myself the question: Is this going to be good for me the next day when I try to prepare for a game? And if a little kid picks up this picture and sees me doing something I'm not supposed to be doing, are they going to follow in my footsteps? I don't want to be a negative influence."

"That's something that I'm very aware of," Wright said. "That's definitely going to be way down the road. It's not even in my mind. It's just not going to happen. I love baseball. That's my passion right now."

Re: David Wright Stays Humble

All that humbleness won't do him any good if he has another stinker like he did in the second half last year.

Hey, there.

Take a second and sign-up to record your posts here at the GoTeamsGo Fan Forum.

Also, David Wright, like many other players, don't have a solid year in fact that they are consistent throughout. Like most players, they have streaks which can last a few days, weeks, or even months. However, those streaks rarely stretch the whole season.
