Mets Sign Chan Ho Park

Reports are circulating that the Mets and RHP Chan Ho Park are about to reach a deal. All that needs to be finalized is a physical which Park will undergo sometime today.

According to Metsblog, the contract is a one-year deal worth a guaranteed $600,000 with incentives of over $2 Million depending on how many innings Park pitches in the big leagues.

From the AP, "A 33-year-old right-hander, Park was 7-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 21 starts and three relief appearances last season for the San Diego Padres. He was slowed by intestinal bleeding during the second half and had surgery Aug. 23. He was activated Sept. 22."

Not a bad signing at all, especially at that price.

Yeah, I guess it's not an expensive deal. But does Park have anything left? Last good season I remember him having was with the Dodgers.

I would assume Park is gonna provide middle relief in his role right guys?

Yeah, then he got overpaid with the Padres.

$600,000 is still a huge bunk of change.

Cool Re: Mets Sign Chan Ho Park

This is actually a good risk to take. The Met starting pitching is a disaster right now. And just keep trying guys and maybe one will stick.

Re: Mets Sign Chan Ho Park

Is Chan Ho Park an American born and bred MLB player, or another overly hyped Asian sign on?

Re: Mets Sign Chan Ho Park

I think the Mets were pressured to some extent. They needed to sign some pitching before the season cranks up, and they obviously turned to Ho Park in a one-two deal. I'm not sure how much thought when into this decision, but it shouldn't make a dent since he will be replacing the disappointing Zambrano.

I like the signing. There's nothing to lose. And besides, his stats while pitching at Shea Stadium are pretty good.

Re: Mets Sign Chan Ho Park

You make a valid point, EmpireWF.

I'm not fond of Chan Ho Park (as a former Padre) after reading stories of his overpaid salaries and declining statistics. But if and when he shall succeed, he shall bring happiness to the Mets' organization.

I'm worried about the Mets rotation however many feel Omar is far from done and feel he will definately sign a big name starter during the spring before the season starts. When ya think pitching was the reason the Mets didn't win it all last year to think they would go into this season with all these question marks in the rotation is obsurd. Please do something better than Park!

I doubt a "big name" is even out there at this point. I expect Minaya to hold to his guns and wait until mid-season when the trade market presents itself. You never know who may be available then.

As far as last season, the reason they didn't get to the World Series was due to their bats falling flat in the NLCS. Pitching was fine, they couldn't hit to save their lives.

But the rotation at this point does leave a lot to be desired.

Park is not the savior to their struggles.
