What do the Mets do now?

It's weird, obviously this isn't fact but it seems like the Mets put all their eggs in Zito's basket for the past month. Now, what do they do? If the season started today (thankfully it doesn't) the Mets rotation would like this Glavine, El Duque, Maine, Perez, rookie (Humber/Pelfrey/Vargas). Hardly even remotely going to fear any hitters.

So, there's not a whole lot left in free agency. Just guys like Joel Piniero, Tomo Ohka and Tony Armas. This means as Omar Minaya has said, they will probably turn to the trade market.

I don't think the White Sox will be trading anyone after they already dealt some of their pitchers.

Just for the record, the sense I get from Mets fans are that they're satisfied Minaya and Mets Brass didn't fork over the extra cash/years for Zito. However, we're all still a bit skiddish now with no real ace pitcher.

Re: What do the Mets do now?

Guess it's time for Oliver Perez and the young pitchers. Is there no one else out there who can be at least serviceable? Zito is not worth that money he got from the Giants needless to say.

Re: What do the Mets do now?

Well they certainly didnt act as if Zito was their only option. The mets management has to know that in the end it was their weak pitching that let them down and they have to be out to correct that. They may be nervous about grabbing a high profile pitcher because Pedro will most likely return. The best that we can hope for now is that they have a couple trade possibilities lined up and we can still throw out a decent rotation.

I hope that the mets don't attempt a 6 man rotation, which would allow them to give 2 rookies a shot. This would really destroy their bullpen leaving them with nothing in the way of quality pitching.

According to Newsday:

While most of the big names have signed, the Mets have interest in Tony Armas Jr., Tomo Ohka and Jeff Weaver, a person familiar with the club's thinking said yesterday.

Re: What do the Mets do now?

I'm not a big Jeff Weaver fan personally but they have to bring in some new pitchers one way or another.

Re: What do the Mets do now?

No way Jeff Weaver should ever return to New York. Armas or Ohka, well, I guess they're okay. I'd probably choose Ohka over Armas though due to his injury problems.

Re: What do the Mets do now?

Sorry to hear about Zito, guys.

But, the Mets' rotation is a mess and Ohka nor Armas are the solution.
