The past two days, Omar Minaya (GM) has been busier than usual and has made some moves. Besides the fact that
Moises Alou is signed to a one year, $7.5 Million deal with an option for 2008, he acquired pitchers.
Yesterday, the Mets traded
AA RHP Matt Lindstrom and AAA RHP Henry Owens to the Florida Marlins for
LHP Jason Vargas and LHP Adam Bostick.
-Lindstrom was never in the Mets future plans. Owens had great numbers in the minors last year and even had a cup of coffee in the bigs. However, the Mets are said to be dealing from a strength (their pen). They acquired two young lefty pitchers from the Marlins. Vargas is said to be the better of the two and the one closest to reaching the majors. It's been said that Vargas struggled a bit mentally in 2006 but with the guidance of Rick Peterson, he should improve.
Today, the Mets picked up on waivers
RHP Jason Standridge. The reliever pitched in the pen for the Cincinnati Reds a year ago. He has been invited to spring training. His stats last year: 1-1, 4.82 ERA in 21 games.
And also, Mets prospect
OF Carlos Gomez was added to the team 40-man roster. The move was done to protect Gomez from the Rule-V Draft. Gomez is seen as the top position player prospect in the Mets system with Milledge in the majors.
