Mets sign Lima

The Mets have signed former Royals and Dodgers pitcher Jose Lima to a minor league deal, and will invite him to spring training. Lima, 33, went 5-16 with a 6.99 ERA last season in 32 starts for Kansas City. If added to the 40-man roster, he would earn $600,000. So what kind of a chance does he have?

Mets will be auditioning anyone with an arm for a spot in the backend of the rotation and most likely to store in case of injury. Lima was terrible last year but did do well 2-years ago with Los Angeles.

A low-risk signing, not a great one, but not a bad one either. If nothing else, just another personality to have in Spring Training lol.

What amazes me is that, at his age, Lima was able to start 32 games last year. If nothing else, it might be nice to have him around to chew up innings out of the pen and as a spot starter - if he'll accept the role.
