Thinking about today and with the Mets on the verge of sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers and advancing to the National League Championship Series, I was brought back to the last time they had an opportunity to win a series. It was the NLCS of 2000. Game five against the St. Louis Cardinals, playing at home.
They won the game 7-0 as Mike Hampton pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout. He was named the series MVP. Early in the game, the Mets offense got to Pat Hentgen early and knocked him out before the end of the fourth inning.
Will the Mets be able to so dominantly put away the Dodgers as they did the Cardinals that October night six years ago?
I sure hope so
