Post Mets Magic Number Thread

The magic number is the amount of Met wins and 2nd place team losses combined that equal 8 until the Mets officially clinch the division. As of game play tonight, both the Philadelphia Phillies and Florida Marlins are in second place and playing each other. So after tonight, the magic number will remain 8.

Once that magic number is reached, the Mets will officially end the Atlanta Braves streak of 14 consecutive division titles. This thread will be stickied so we can all count down to the glorious feat (at least in the eyes of Mets fan )

After 9/11 Games:

Marlins def. Mets, 16-5
Phillies did not play

Magic # Until Mets Clinch NL East: 4

Re: Mets Magic Number Thread

Updated after Saturdays games. Amazing, the Mets are just 5 wins and/or Phillie losses away from being the Champions of the NL East. It seems like just yesterday, Roger Cedeno was having fly balls land on his head and Robby Alomar was sliding head first into first base.

Re: Mets Magic Number Thread

The Mets eliminated the Atlanta Braves from Division Winning possibilities last night. Now they have a chance to clinch the NL East title today. If they defeat the Marlins and the Phillies lose both games of their doubelheader with the Braves, the Mets are your NL East champs tonight.

Re: Mets Magic Number Thread

Does it really make a difference when they clinch their division? It is obviously that a 90+ win team will win their division leaving the others in their dust. Actually, the Marlins might surprisingly make the NL Wild Card.

I'll get the celebrations ready anyway!

Re: Mets Magic Number Thread

Perhaps not Marc, but it's always fun seeing a team clinch and have a post-game celebration.

The Mets magic # is now 1 (thanks to the Phillies losing last night) and they can clinch the NL East later today in Pittsburgh. Pedro Martinez returns to the mound.
