The Isiah Thomas Era Has Officially Ended

Chill the champagne and get ready for a heady night of celebration: The Knicks have finally pulled the cord on Isiah Thomas, and he has been relieved of his coaching duties. Donnie Walsh says he will stay with the organization as someone who reports directly to Walsh, and whom has no one reporting to him.

While the sure-to-be endless list of names coming up for Walsh's consideration to succeed the least successful Knicks decision-maker in history will get plenty of attention the next few days, let us commemorate Zeke one last time. This is not, of course, a small matter. This is the guy who gave us the Starbury and Steve Francis tandem, the twin tower power of Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph, "I don't give a f#@$ about these white people," the most fascinating code of conduct sports has ever seen, "sunt," Jerome James, and pity for Knicks fans from Philadelphians.

Re: The Isiah Thomas Era Has Officially Ended

I never cared for his player attitude and his coaching attitude and ability were a bit short of anything positive. I would have thought that the organization would have wanted to get rid of him completely. I can't see where he will add anything worthwhile to the organization.

Re: The Isiah Thomas Era Has Officially Ended

Isiah Thomas was like those old Roach Motel commercial for the NY Knicks. He checked in but you couldn't get him out! What more did this guy have to do to get fired? Money or not, if you want to save the Knicks as the NBA is dead in the tri-state area you have to pay him to go away. Frankly it's worth it if him and his "playoff team to rebuilding team" scheme in mid season every year is officially gone!

Great players seldom make great coaches...great coaches are usually marginal players that had to learn every aspect of the game just to scrap by.

The next time I see Isiah I want it to be a picture of him cleaning toilets in the bowels of Madison Square Garden in his "other capacity." Then maybe his &*#@ -eating grin will make sense.

I think he would find a way to screw that up as well...I just don't think this guy should stay around basketball anymore...he has already tarnished the image he had as a player.

I agree completely. I can't believe the Knicks are even planning to keep him around. He shouldn't even be a ticket taker or the beer guy!

Keeping him around in any capacity smacks of Dolan still wanting him around. Thomas would have to jump onto the subway tracks to save a baby to restore his reputation in New York now.

Don't see him as the type willing to do that......maybe pushing someone else under the train...but not him doing it per say...

Maybe they could set up an Isiah dunk tank outside of MSG. Think of the money that would make! Fans would pay out the nose for a chance to sink Thomas the same way he sank the Knicks franchise!

That would be good as long as there is the possibility of flushing him down the tank and out of the system after the fans have their fun.

Exactly. He was one of my favorite players growing up after that playoff performance with the sprained ankle. It is a shame that he will now be remembered for ruining the Knicks franchise instead of the great player he was.
