Happy Anniversary, Isiah!

ESPN's Marc Stein notes today is the fourth anniversary of the day Isiah Thomas took over the Knicks' front office. And Stein crunches the numbers, too: The Knicks are 123-192 with Zeke as the boss, and 38-59 with Isiah as coach. And Thomas has gone 12-32 since he got a contract extension last spring.

So while Isiah's Knicks are falling 23 points behind the 10-14 Bobcats by halftime, let us revisit the sentiment when Zeke first came to Madison Square Garden. Take it away, James Dolan!
"Isiah is one of the most celebrated figures in the history of the NBA and we believe he is the right person to lead this team into the future," Dolan said. "His set of skills and experience will reinvigorate this team to achieve our only goal -- delivering a championship-caliber team to all Knicks fans."
Currently, the Knicks have the fourth-worst record in the league despite the NBA's highest payroll by far. Only this man could have New Yorkers pining for the Scott Layden era.

Re: Happy Anniversary, Isiah!

Until the Knicks become important again, the NBA will flounder, no matter what anyone in the Commissioner's office says. The only way for that to happen is for Isiah to go and Dolan to give complete basketball control to someone with a brain, because he is NOT going to sell the team.

You way over estimate this franchise...the league will not flounder if the Celtics and Lakers both find their groove...

They couldn't win it when Ewing was playing and the NBA didn't flounder during that time. If at any point in time you see the league as floundering my view is that there are no real starts like Magic, Bird, MJ and so on.

Closer to the truth...and can there be a star of that magnitude again? I don't see it happening in the age of YouTube..where all your follies are up for public consumption.

The NBA has flourished since I started watching it in the early '80s and the Knicks have always been an afterthought. They were decent with Ewing, but never a threat that I remember. As long as the teams like Bulls, Lakers, and Celtics are around, the NBA will be fine.
