Golden State GM Chris Mullin is expected to emerge as a top candidate for the Knicks GM job if Isiah Thomas eventually is fired from his dual role as coach and president, The Post has learned........ A lot would have to happen before New York's favorite son could come home. Mullin is beloved by Golden State owner Chris Cohane, so the Knicks could have a hard time getting Mullin out of his Golden State contract. A league source said Mullin has at least one more guaranteed year left on his pact after this one, maybe two.

TIME RUNNING OUT FOR ISIAH

Mullin would be perfect. Give up a draft pick if you have to, but bring Chris back to the Garden.

I'm talking about Dolan not getting involved at all. Don't hover over the new GM's head. Let him do his job.

If Mullin got the job, he would probably let him do whatever he wanted. I just wonder how Isiah's penchant for giving out terrible contracts over the last few years (Ex-$30 million to Jerome James who has played about all of 5 minutes since the Knicks got him), will hinder Mullins effort.
