Knicks Trailblazers trade

The Knicks have traded Channing Frye and Steve Francis to the Portland Trail Blazers for Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau and Fred Jones. Good deal?

Re: Knicks Trailblazers trade

Good deal as it shakes things up and they get a serious player besides Marbury.

Don't know how the contracts work out but Spike Lee was surely happy.

Re: Knicks Trailblazers trade

From NYTimes:

Quote:
Acquiring Randolph is a puzzling move, for several reasons. Randolph is primarily a low-post scorer, making him a curious fit alongside center Eddy Curry. Thomas has touted Curry – who can only score around the basket -- as an All-Star talent and the franchise centerpiece.

Randolph is due $61 million over the next four seasons, which all but guarantees the Knicks will be over the salary cap through 2011. Without the trade, the Knicks had a chance to get under the cap in 2009. The deal reverses the Knicks’ more recent move toward fiscal restraint. Since acquiring Francis and Jalen Rose 16 months ago, Thomas has indicated a desire to steer away from players with bloated, long-term contracts.

And Randolph, while an affable personality, also has an extensive history of disciplinary and legal problems

Cool Re: Knicks Trailblazers trade

True they're both low post players, but Curry never gets any rebounds. Randolph does. Look, Randolph will make them better but they are still a mish mosh of a mess.

Re: Knicks Trailblazers trade

Zach will bring much needed help to a weak ass Knicks team.

Re: Knicks Trailblazers trade

I don't know if it was an immediate help or not, but that had to have cleared out a lot of cap space.

Re: Knicks Trailblazers trade

Listening to the local radio after the draft, one show had on a beat writer from The Oregonian (who covers the Blazers) to discuss Randolph. What he said, paraphrasing:

-Zach Randolph is a good person but he hangs around with a bad crowd.
-He doesn't care about winning, only stats.
-He's a ball hog. When plays would be called specifically for Jamaal Magloire, Randolph would still call for the ball to score.
-His teammates liked him but hated playing with him.
-He plays zero defense.
-He's a man who frequents strip clubs (whether this is important, I don't know but he mentioned it).
-He wondered aloud how he and Eddy Curry can coexist. Neither play defense and both are inside scorers.
-Blazers loved the trade (even though they didn't get much, if anything, he said they want to buy out Steve Francis' contract) because of addition by subtraction.

Overall, it doesn't look like a a great trade for the Knicks but Randolph is a star.

Re: Knicks Trailblazers trade

Well, Francis is gone and that is a start. Randolph is a playa. Marbury is no longer worried about Francis stealing his playing time. We also picked up a sharpshooter in the 2nd round. This is something we definately need. I know you will hate me for suggesting this but let's trade Curry.
