Marbury back to Starbury

This is from RealGM...

Quote:
According to Newsday, Stephon Marbury has said in a published report yesterday that he plans to go back to playing like "Starbury," his description of the freelancing style he prefers.

Marbury, whose numbers are down this season, claims he's tried to play coach Larry Brown's style, which has resulted in only 17 wins in 61 attempts, and now it is time that he go back to playing his natural style.

"So what do I do now, as far as the way I play?" Marbury said in the interview. "I go back to playing like Stephon Marbury, aka 'Starbury.' I haven't been 'Starbury' this year. I've been some other dude this year ... When you watch the games, that's not Stephon Marbury."

"If this was my contract year and I went to any organization, based on how I played this year, and asked for the max, tell me what they would tell me," .Marbury said in the interview. "They'd say, 'That ain't happening.' "

Brown has long complained about the team ignoring the called plays, including in a recent close loss to the Chicago Bulls.

On Saturday, Brown described newly acquired guard Steve Francis as "low-maintenance" and "fun to be around." Meanwhile, Marbury praised Charlotte coach Bernie Bickerstaff for allowing rookie point guard Raymond Felton to "play freely."

Marbury has three years valued at $60.3 million remaining on his contract, making him extremely difficult to move, while Brown has another four seasons at $10 per season.

Marbury's name wasn't mentioned specifically, but team owner James Dolan recently said buyouts are a possibility this summer. The way things are going, Newsday writes, Dolan might have to decide whether he wants to buy out Marbury or Brown.

I'd say something demeaning to the Knicks but they're already doing that to themselves. A terrible organization to say the least.

Marbury thinks his freestyling play will help the team? Why not? It can't be any worse.

Who knows? Maybe it'll actually help. What happens if they suddenly start winning?

Cool Re: Marbury back to Starbury

I've never been the biggest Marbury fan but I was glad to see him to stick it to Brown the way Brown does to his players all the time.

But what have these players ever done? Brown has a ring, they don't. Well...Malik Rose does

Empire: If You or I coached for 20 different teams over 30 years, we might win a championship also.

Look, I'm not knocking Brown as a coach. But if you have something to say to one of your players, have the guts to say it to his face. Occasionaly, you find a coach who strategically knocks a player in the press, but Brown does it all the time. It's just a little of his own medicine back at him.

Obviously, whatever he's doing is not working. I'm watching Denver put up 61 pts at halftime. The Knicks don't even try to play defense. If you're not skilled, it's one thing. If you don't try, that's the coach's fault.

Re: Marbury back to Starbury

Starbury scores 25 points and has 7 assists. New York loses 108-96. Nope, guess that didn't work either. Of course, like Pundit points out, its awful hard to win if nobody plays defense. What to do, what to do...

Re: Marbury back to Starbury

Perhaps Herb Williams should get a larger role on the staff. In his short time as head coach last season, the team (albeit, w/ different players) seemed to play tougher.
