The two worse teams in the NBA lock horns tonight as the New York Knicks battle the Charlotte Bobcats. Currently, the Bobcats are the ones with the dubious honor of having the league's worst record -- both teams possess 17 wins, but the Knicks have two fewer losses at this point in the season.

Of course, as the Associated Press is kind enough to point out to NY fans...

New York... dealt its first-round pick to Chicago in the offseason deal that brought center Eddy Curry to the Knicks.

So the Knicks faithful doesn't even have that to look forward to. But fear not. There is good news... and it doesn't even have anything to do with saving money on car insurance!

The underachieving Knicks, who have the league's highest payroll, have put together back-to-back strong performances on the road. Jalen Rose led seven players in double figures with 21 points against his former team as New York beat Indiana 107-92 on Tuesday.

So when this one's all said and done, which team will be able to proudly proclaim: "We're #30! We're #30!"?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The Charlotte Bobcats just missed finishing with the NBA's worst record during their expansion season. If things keep up, they'll avoid the cellar again this year.

Jumaine Jones scored 28 points to help the Bobcats beat New York 116-109 on Saturday night and edge ahead of the Knicks in the battle to avoid the worst record in the NBA.

The victory moved the Bobcats to 18-45 and helped them match their win total from last year's expansion season. New York dropped to 17-44, a humiliating mark for the team with the NBA's highest payroll at $123 million.
