Knicks Nuggets Fight

What a crazy story is the NY Knicks Nuggets fight in Madison Square Garden!

10 players ejected and they cleared the floor, stopped the game. What in the world is going on with that!

Re: Knicks Nuggets Fight

Just saw this on ESPNews. Crazy stuff. From what I saw and heard from interviews...

-Nuggets were winning big on Knicks at MSG...Melo and Co stayed in the game.
-Isiah told Melo not to go into the paint about two minutes before the fight started...
-JR Smith went for a dunk, Mardy Collins gave him a hard foul. Smith got back up and went after him.
-Nate Robinson went after Smith and the two fought into the photogs
-As they were being pulled apart Melo ran up to Mardy and slapped/punched him
-Jeffries charged after Melo and had to be pulled back by his jersey from getting to Melo who ran away

Looks like Melo will get the biggest suspension, followed by Nate Robinson, Smith, Jeffries, Collins and possibly Isiah Thomas.

I'm sure ESPN has something on it and you can bet YouTube will have it up sooner than later.

Re: Knicks Nuggets Fight

I say no blood no foul.

It looked worse than it was. I think the Knicks took exception to the Nuggets running upthe score on them in a taunting manner and they hit the Nuggets with a hard foul. Then they went at it. Seen better action at the playground.

Though what's with the Melo hit and run...the kid was back peddling after the punch...if you are going to throw the punch...then be man enough to stand your ground. He should get 1 game for the punch + 3 games for the back peddle...

Actually, Nate flung JR over his side and into the stands.

I totally disagree with you Gotham...Collins should get at least 5 games for that gutless foul on Smith. And anybody who threw a punch should get at least 5 games......Maybe it ended up okay, but that was close to becoming ugly.

And when hoops players fight - it's much more scary than any other sport. They're huge and strong and don't have the ice and football equipment to deal with. Remember Rudy T? How about Pistons vs. Pacers? One running punch from one of these guys could kill somebody or cause brain damage - easily.

You just cannot allow that kind of mele in the NBA. Period.

Naw that's like saying that "intent of a crime" should be punished to the same degree as outcome...pulling a gun on someone is not the same as murder for example...they were all guilty to some degree...but a hard foul is part of the game...and you can't equate it to a punch...a punch is not the same as Kermit and Rudy T...heck most NBAers can't throw a proper punch...I got a little ity bity cousin that under 5 feet tall that throws a better punch than half the league.

Re: Knicks Nuggets Fight

This is what I see happening with suspensions. First, any player who left the bench (does it include coaches too?) gets a mandatory 1 game suspension.

As far as the players on the court go, from what I remember with the Knicks David Lee and Channing Frye never threw a punch and were trying to get their guys out of there. So they're not suspended (perhaps a game if the league says so b/c of being ejected). With the Nuggets, I don't remember Camby, Miller or Najera throwing punches so they're the same as Lee/Frye.

But the guys who will get larger suspensions: Mardy Collins, Nate Robinson, Jared Jeffries, J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony.

-Collins should get at least 4-5 games for the flagrant foul.
-Robinson should miss more games as he's the reason why it escalated originally and challenged Smith and fought into the first row.
-Smith should get about 5-7 games for fighting with Robinson
-Melo should get at least 10 games for the punch on Collins (should get more for running away ) at a time when the thing was dying down.
-Jeffries should get about 5 games (there's the pic of him having his hand around Melos throat) for his part.

Re: Knicks Nuggets Fight

Being the structured individual that I am I say, what do the rules say ? The theory that pulling a gun on someone verus actually murdering someone is totally different, means nothing here. The analogy is probably significant but what does the rule book have to say about what happened ? It appears that part of the problem is tha the score was being run up and that the Nuggets starters should have been out with the short amount of time left. I say "CRAP". Is there somewhere in the rules that says if you are ahead by "X" many points the starters must come out ? I didn't think so. Thomas isn't the Nuggets coach nor are any of the Knick players coaches. Open up the rule book and pass out fines and suspensions as outlined in whatever chapter/paragraph and move on. Tempers are never easy to control and when split second bad decisions are made somebody is gonna suffer. It is now time to pay the piper.

10 games for that sissy punch he threw?...Dude maybe if he was a life long trouble maker or marginal player....you take him out for 10 days for that and you affect NBA marketing league wide. So I doubt they will give him that.
