Wait, so they're struggling with cap problems, and they dump an expiring contract to pick up a ballhog who is guaranteed $15 million for next season. Nice move, Isiah. If I were a Knick fan, I'd be mighty unhappy right about now. Just out of curiosity, what is the cap going to be next season, and do the Knicks actually have a snowball's chance in Hades of being under it?

Check out the entire story at... http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...v=st&type=lgns I cant wait to see how this deal turns out!!!

I love what Steve Kerr had to say about it in his Yahoo Sports! column yesterday: "Is it just me, or does the latest New York Knicks trade have an 'if we throw enough crap at the wall, some of it will stick' feel to it?" He also goes on to point out that "New York's payroll will exceed $130 million next season. All for a last-place team." and that "For Orlando, this was a no-brainer. The Magic rid themselves of a point guard who was not performing well, who wasn't happy in Orlando and who had three years left on an enormous contract... Orlando clears cap space, gets a talented young wing defender in Trevor Ariza and gives itself the chance to start over by building the team around Dwight Howard."

I don't know what the cap is next season but the Knicks as they are constructed now, will not be under the cap for the next few years. Almost everyone on their squad is untradeable because of their large salaries. For instance, who is going to take Jamaal Crawford off the Knicks hands at 8 million a year? The only way they're going to get under the cap is by letting their present contracts expire one by one and replace them with young cheaper talent. And it's obvious that Isiah and Dolan will not do that. For those of you who care or have the time, this site really explains the cap well. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#12

The Knicks will be paying abou $60 million in the cap tax alone. Terrible management. There's talk now that Isiah is trying to get whatever he needs to make a play at Kevin Garnett in the off-season. There have been rumors he's going to make a power play out of Minnesota...but I doubt the Knicks have a serious shot. The TWolves could easily get a better package somewhere else...

Is it any wonder that the CBA went bankrupt under this guy's watch? The only way the knicks are going to get better is when the fans start staying home, forcing management to dump Thomas and start over. The MSG ownership is a joke. The only reason the Rangers are having success is that a salary cap was imposed, otherwise they would be the Knicks on ice.
| ||||
That's exactly it legend. The only way Cablevision (the company that owns the KNicks, James Dolan...the owner) is going to face the facts is if people stop showing up to MSG. But for some reason, people still go and pay outrageous prices to watch the worst team in the league.

Isiah Thomas = John Lennon A friend of mine is the lead singer/lyricist/guitarist as well as an unabashed Beatles worshipper. He is, however, realistic about certain darker times in Fab Four history. To wind him up a little, we ask him about John Lennon's work on The White Album or Let It Be. "Frank," someone will innocently ask, "is the guitar work on 'The Long and Winding Road' bad?" "O, it's brutal. If Lennon wanted to go and f*** up his own stuff like 'Across the Universe,' that's fine, but he shouldn't have messed with f***ing McCartney's." "But Frank," continues any number of the devil's advocates drawn to warmth of the usually mellow Canadian's ire, "if that's true, why didn't somebody tell him?" "Who? Who's going to tell John F***ing Lennon the genius that he's wrong? The soundboard guys? Studio musicians?" "Uh, what about George Martin?" "No way." So, here we have Isiah, a Hall of Famer, a two-time NBA champion that should have been a Dream Teamer (though rumor has it that Jordan and Bird froze him off the roster). Who's going to tell him he's wrong when he smiles and verbally bumbles through his TV work? Who's going to break the news that he's running the CBA into the ground? Who's going to suggest that, as a so-called coach, he shouldn't be blowing off practice? He's Isiah. Uh, what about James L. Dolan? He's the guy that's paying the Bad Boy to trade at a rate superceded only by me playing Madden 2004. No way. The signing of the ineptly-nicknamed Stevie "Franchise" pushes the Knicks salary cap over $130 million, paralyzing the Knicks through 2008-09 in terms of free-agent signing. Plus, they've given up their lottery pick to the Bulls this year, and next year the Bulls get to switch draft positions with them. For this, the Knicks received Dell Curry. Of all the statistics bandied about regarding the outrageous proportions of the Isiah payroll, here's the most intriguing of all. The Knicks are now number 2 on the list of top payrolls. For Major League Baseball! A mere $80 stands between Isiah and his new rivals, George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees. Would you believe he's already talking smack about making a play for Kevin Garnett? C'mon, Isiah, we know you can do it!
