Rex Ryan's Toughest Foe

You might think that for Rex Ryan, head coach of the New York Jets, that his toughest foe might be the Jets fans who were let down last year. Maybe you would think its bringing a new attitude and a breath of fresh air to the mess left by his predecessor, Eric Mangini.
No, the biggest for Rex Ryan faces is dyslexia.
Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability which affects people's abilities to read, spell, write and pronounce words. According to The International Dyslexia Association, perhaps as much as 15-20% of the population has symptoms of dyslexia.
Ryan knew something was wrong when he was growing up. He struggled in school and was a terrible student. He didn't find out he had dyslexia, until a few years ago when his oldest son was tested for ADHD and he was tested also.
In spite of that, Ryan has a Master's Degree in education and has accomplished many goals in the NFL.
He says that he wants other people to know that you can still reach your goals even if you have dyslexia.

Re: Rex Ryan's Toughest Foe

Ryan says he was upfront with the Jets when he was interviewed and made no secret of his condition.
He has made adjustments all his life and will continue to do so.

Re: Rex Ryan's Toughest Foe

It's inspiring when you see people come out and follow their goals even with a certain condition holding them back. I think there was some NHL coach who was really successful and later everyone found out he had dyslexia, or maybe it was just that he couldn't read... Either way, it was something that could hold one back in life.
