Cool Mangini losing team already

Kevin Burkhardt, the Jets beat reporter, for WFAN in NY says veteran players have told him that the only time that Mangini talks to the players is "when he yells at us." The players can't stand this guy.

Now there's nothing wrong with discipline but you have to establish some rapport with veterans so that they buy into the program. It also works better with a coach who has some sort of track record as a head coach. I mean 10 years ago wasn't Mangini coaching girls touch football ? He better be careful. He's no Belicheck. Heck, he's not even Herm Edwards.

I will tell you when he lost the team...Leinhart and Cutler on the board and the guy goes for an O-lineman...that's a bonehead move...

I can bet you over the next year, those veteran players will be weeded out and eventually off the team. Mangini isn't going anywhere, he'll bring in his kind of players and over the next couple of years, the Jets should turn things around.

do you think the jets did this cause of the texans and carr, you see with no line how he gets murdered. they spent there two first round picks on guys they think can be lifelong anchors on the line for them?

Re: Mangini losing team already

Don't forget that the Jets lost Kevin Mawae to I think the Buccaneers. They need a strong offensive-line or else Curtis Martin won't be able to whip around the outsides or break through the middle. It just so happens that Curtis Martin won't be able to do any of those things this season, anyway.

David Carr has the potential of being a great QB if he had a better line and didn't get sacked so often. He gets sacked more than a bag of groceries.

I have to disagree. The Jets didn't do the popular thing but they did the football smart thing. They knew their o-line was in shambles and they basically had nobody. They spent two top picks on a franchise bookend left tackle and probably the best center in the draft. Right there, they're set for the next decade at two of the most important spots on offense.

Now whether or not you like Pennington, they don't have any receivers or running backs of note.

Re: Mangini losing team already

I'm surprised they got around to Nick Mangold. From what I had heard, he was suppose to be drafted much higher (possibly in the first round). I don't know that much about college football, but I think the Jets made some smart moves in the draft strategically speaking. It doesn't take a "bonehead" to figure that one out.

Haha, I'm just poking around at you, Gotham Dark Knight.

Couldn't agree more. Everyone wants a quarterback because they're the stylish, sexy pick. But games are more often than not won or lost in the trenches, and a great LT is much harder to find than a great QB, in my opinion. Ferguson has the kind of rare talent that leads me to believe that he might become a regular at the Pro Bowl. Can we say that about Matt Leinart, Vince Young, or Jay Cutler right now?

Your right Lefty. Not only did they lose Mawae but Jason Fabini was also let go.

Regarding Mangini, It really depends on who the veterans were. What if it was Vilma or Sean Ellis? What Mangini should have done was sat down with a couple of key veterans and said he's going to be hard on the team and that he needed their support....But it sounds like he's another Jimmy Williams in baseball. Leaders of anything have to communicate with their players, besides when they're yelling at them. They have to develop some sort of rapport. A guy like Tom Coughlin can get away with it because he has a track record. Mangini is on much shakier ground.

Re: Mangini losing team already

Line anchors are more available out there than franchise QB's...matt and Jay Cutler are Franchise QBs...I didn't say take any other QB over the O-lineman...but you ain't getting no where with just a line...and few teams make it to the big show without a franchise QB or a Defense...sure you need your building blocks on a line...but not with a 1st round fourth pick...unless he is the second coming of John Hannah...and I don't think this kid is.

Raw Talent is not enough...to vault him over Culter and Matt...anyone remember a kid named Mandrich...hell of a physical speices...never went any where...Ferguson was a legit 1st rounder, but not a fourth overall...

No way Jay and Matt should have dropped as low as they did...the Raiders with Huff were similarly dumb.
