The New York Jets hired Matt Cavanaugh as their quarterbacks coach Monday. Cavanaugh, who spent 14 seasons in the NFL, was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Pittsburgh the past four years. He'll oversee the Jets' quarterbacks, including Brett Favre -- if he decides to return for a 19th season.
Cavanaugh, 52, has 11 years of NFL coaching experience, serving as an offensive coordinator for Baltimore (1999-2004) and Chicago {1997-1998} and as quarterbacks coach for San Francisco (1996) and Arizona (1994-95). After helping Pitt to a national championship in 1976, he served as a backup on Super Bowl-winning teams with the 49ers in 1985 and the New York Giants in 1991.
