Cool Curtis Martin really hurt

Reported in Today's Newsday:
Did anyone see this coming? I'm a Jets fan and I had no idea he was this beat up.

Curtis Martin has a "bone-on-bone" condition in his surgically repaired right knee, a setback that has the Jets' coaching staff privately wondering if the future Hall of Famer will be able to suit up for the start of his 12th season.

"The guy is bone-on-bone on the knee and can't play," a person with knowledge of Martin's injury said yesterday, speaking on condition of anonymity. "No one has said he's not going to play, but I don't know how much more they're going to get out of the guy."

The person confirmed earlier reports that Martin has virtually no cartilage in his right knee, which was repaired arthroscopically in December.

The Jets continue to explore the running backs market. The latest names added to the list are the Cardinals' Marcel Shipp and the Chargers' Michael Turner, who worked with Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer the past two years.

I hope he is alright. This is a horrible injury for someone with such potential and playing skill at a relatively-old age. It is also a horrible time since Edgerrin James was already shipped to Arizona (not that we would've grabbed him).

As a Jets fan, we need him this season!

I know someone who had the same injury. It's painful as hell. My guess is that Martin's done.

Wow, once you lose all the cartiledge in either of your knees, it's non-stop pain. I hope Martin doesn't have to live like that for the rest of his life.

I agree that Martin is done. I think the Jets are in big trouble (as usual) because Mangini is unenthusiastically choosing Pennington out of their plethora of QBs and Houston is hardly a feature back. I say give the rookie Washington the ball and pray!

Re: Curtis Martin really hurt

I hope not!

I don't want to see this year's Jets season as one big (expensive and risky) experiment.

The upcoming season for the Jets is an experiment to usher in the new era of Mangini. For Jet fans sake, I'd hope they go no better than 4-12 so they get a high draft pick.

I do not support your perspective at all, EmpireWF. It is nothing personal but I hope that the Jets succeed this season to raise their reputation from last year's mess. As of now, the Jets are not even considered a football team unlike two years ago when they were the cream of the crop. A shocking descend last year shocked the NFL!

Just so, when is Brady Quinn coming out of college?

I agree. The Jets really have to win more to show that they are pointed in the right direction. You cant hope they lose just for a draft pick. You owe it to the fans, owners and many others to win otherwise you have a one way ticket to Kotite-ville. Problem is they have a rebuilt line but they are protecting low level players. Theyre in big trouble.
