Jets QB battle heats up

The New York Jets might have a genuine quarterback controversy after all when training camp starts. At the very least, veteran Chad Pennington will not beat out third year Kellen Clemens very easy.
Yesterday Clemens looked sharp with the first team while Pennington struggled with the second. Clemens was on target with the first team during a session last week also.
Part of Pennington's problems may have been he was with the second team, but he also made some bad throws.
Coach Mangini says reps have been split 50-50.

Everything I have read says that Clemens is winning the battle so far.

Even if they're close, you know Clemens will get the nod because he's younger and they want to see if he's a long-term solution.

I think Clemens will win the job and it's for the best. He's younger and NFL defensive coaches seem to have figured out how to make Chad Pennington ineffective.

Since he is inaccurate and getting his passes knocked down in OTA, then I think Chad Pennington had a lot to do with making Chad Pennington ineffective. Too bad. I dont think he will ever get over that shoulder injury.

Re: Jets QB battle heats up

I am rooting for Clemens to take over the starting QB position for the Jets but Pennington won't go down after a fight. I have seen Clemens live a few times when he was with the Ducks and he is a real competitor. See what happens?

Neither one is a quality option. The Jets are in deep trouble until they find a QB.

I hear Brendt Favre is going to speak with the Jets. If the Jets are willing to speak to Favre, this probably means they are not totally happy with their QB situation.

He won't be. The word is that the Jets don't want to invest the money in Favre, and given their recent history, I believe it.

Re: Jets QB battle heats up

The Jets aren't going anywhere with these two as their QBs. Defenses know how to make Pennington as effective as a bladeless lawnmower simply by ignoring the non-existent deep threat and Clemens doesn't seem to know (at least now) what the hell he's doing. If the Jets are serious about the playoffs i'd go for Favre. Imagine drama queen Farvey on the New York stage with the media. He'd be on the front page everyday!! It's a match made in heaven!! Brett would get the attention he so lusts for more than his own wife and the NY press would have a blast!! Sign him Jets!!

Re: Jets QB battle heats up

Well I think it could be interesting to see who ends up starting for the Jets. Pennington has more expierence but I think it is his arm strength. Clemens seems to have accuracy problems. Maybe Favre is still available too.

I think that Clemens will beat out Pennington but Favre could be a different story.
