Jets draft Erik Ainge

The NY Jets used their 5th round pick to select quarterback Erik Ainge out of Tennessee.

Here's some info courtesy of SI & NFLDraftCountdown:

Positives: "Patient in the pocket, looks off the safety and quickly locates the open wide out on the field. Sells the ball fakes, puts touch on throws and nicely places them into receivers hands. Possesses above average arm strength, zips the ball between defenders and receivers run to the long pass. Throws with a quick, over-the-top release." -------"He sees the field well and knows how to read a defense...Is naturally athletic...Tough and stands tall in the pocket...Productive...A competitor with solid intangibles...Lots of experience against top competition...Still improving."

Negatives: "Late on timing passes, forces the ball into covered wideouts and cracks under pressure. Does a lot of unnecessary double pumping. Indecisive and misjudges throws."--------"Extremely inconsistent...Durability's a big concern...Gets sloppy with his mechanics and fundamentals...Below average mobility...Does not throw well on the run...Has had his confidence tested..Needs to be developed..Probably a boom or bust type."

Re: Jets draft Erik Ainge

Boom or bust is right. He was a much better with David Cutcliffe coaching him than without him. Not sure that bodes well for the kid's NFL future.

Re: Jets draft Erik Ainge

I'm a Tennessee fan and have seen Ainge carry the University of Tennessee for two seasons. He is a warrior and has the ability to be a top notch NFL quarterback. Jets may have found their franchise QB. I certainly have a new favorite NFL team.
