Jonathan Vilma...Soon To Be The Best At His Position?

I would say Jonathan Vilma right now is a very good to great MLB. Hes definitely a star in the NFL especially considering hes on the Jets who are rebuilding. I liked Vilma a lot but last year the memory of Kevin Faulk making a move to effortlessly fake out Vilma in the Monday Night Game for a TD sticks in my head. J. Vilma reminds me a lot of Ray Lewis in his fiery demeanor and despite his age obviously wants to be the leader of this defense. Good for him! I call that ambition and thats what Vilma has in spades. He wont let his teammates play like theyre going through the motions, just like Ray Lewis wouldnt. Ray Lewis is getting up there in age ladies and germs...is Johnathan Vilma the heir apparent to being the NFL's premier run stopper? Anyone know some other ILBs aside from Lewis and Urlacher who are better at the moment or will Vilma take Lewis' throne?

Vilma will take Lewis' throne. Best of all, Jonathan Vilma is young and has a large career ahead of him.

Did I mention that he is my favorite defensive player in the NFL?

That helps! Vilma is a talent though. What a bargain in the 2004 Draft!!!

Cool Re: Jonathan Vilma...Soon To Be The Best At His Position?

Vilma is a great guy too. He lives around here and goes to my kid's school once a year to answer questions and stuff like that.

Good question, Trashed. I've got to figure that behind Baltimore's Ray Lewis and Chicago's Brian Urlacher, you've got Vilma and Carolina's Dan Morgan. Not sure who else I'd throw in to round out the top 5, though.

I like Uralcher myself...Ray is in his own world...Morgan is good, but doesn't he get hurt a lot?...I still like Zach Thomas...buzz saw overachiever that he is...and as far as young guys, I like Nick Barnett of the Packers...

Like everyone seems to be seeing ol' Ray is slowing down a bit plus he got hurt last year. Urlacher is always hurt but just for harmony's sake lets give them the nod over Vilma for now. When Vilman ends this season he will be firmly entrenched as the quintessantial NFL run stopper.

Cool Re: Jonathan Vilma...Soon To Be The Best At His Position?

Vilma was at my daughter's school again today answering questions of 3rd and 4th grade kids. Here's what she remembered from what was asked and what was answered.

1. Favorite Color: Green (Surprise, surprise).
2. Favorite number: 51 (Another shocker).
3. Favorite food: Chicken
4. Favorite Movie: Jumanji
5. What he thinks of the new coach: "He's cool."

Vilma's is neighbors with 2 of the kids who go to school here. He's not only a hell of a player but a great guy to take his time out and do this. Next year, I want to go

Re: Jonathan Vilma...Soon To Be The Best At His Position?

Do you know where he lives on the Island? He is my favorite defensive player, and it would love to finally meet him after I followed him throughout college. It would be an excellent treat.

I like the movie "Jumanji" too. It isn't my favorite, though.

He is a very nice guy who doesn't desire publicity. This was an undercover program which he did on his own, and he probably didn't want the media following him. This was a kind gesture, which makes him a favorite here in New York.

I don't know exactly but if you want to meet him, you can definitely do it at the Jets practice facility at Hofstra right by the Nassau Coliseum. Once the Jets start practicing, most of the sessions are open to the public.
