Jets Games Turn Into Mardi Gras?

David Picker's article in today's New York Times is likely to make a lot of parents think twice about taking their kids to NFL games.
Picker describes the Meadowlands during Jets games as a place where several hundred men gather on a spiral pedestrian ramp and scream an obscene chant at women, asking them to expose their breasts.
And perhaps even worse, Picker describes a situation where the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which provides security at Giants Stadium for Jets and Giants games, seems powerless to do anything about it.
“The problem is, you got to watch four or five hundred people sometimes in the one particular spiral,” said Patrick C. Aramini, the authority’s vice president for security, parking and traffic for the Meadowlands Sports Complex. “What do we do, arrest everybody that starts chanting?”

If it's an unruly section that's doing this, KICK THEM ALL OUT. What's wrong with emptying out the section?

Well that's the solution but having the police remove that whole section for cheering even obscene chant looks very nazish. I don't know, eject them but don't arrest a whole section of fans for that! The jails and courts are full enough already!!

I'm talking about if a section is acting that unruly, eject the section.

It shouldn't be a case where families have to stay home because of a group of morons.

Cool Re: Jets Games Turn Into Mardi Gras?

I only go to about one Jets game every other year and I would NEVER take my wife and kids there. Even before this story came out, Jets fans get absolutely nuts and vulgar, and the atmosphere is just so tense.

I was at the Monday night game in the late 80's when they got blown out by Buffalo and people in the stands started fighting, lighting fires, etc....After that game, beer was banned on Monday night games there.

Re: Jets Games Turn Into Mardi Gras?

There must be other methods of entertainment for those Jets fans, other than watching their poor team lose.

And that's terrible because by rights the NFL is a family sport. I see plenty of young kids watching and playing football and i'm sure you'd let your kids watch Jets games on TV right Pundit? Why do Jets fans get so barbaric while their neighbors the Giants have fans who know how to act wild by cheering on their team or booing their opponent (aside from the infamous Charger snowball game of course). What the heck is it about the Jets and their fans?

Re: Jets Games Turn Into Mardi Gras?

To punish these fans they should be actually made to watch the Jets play. That would make them think twice before acting up again, if they survived it.

Yeah and Direct TV should host it because after watching the Jets play they'll run screaming to get NFL Sunday Ticket to watch out of town teams who have talent!

Jets are brutal. I don't think Clemens is going to be the answer, either.

I don't know if he's gonna be the answer for sure (although I think more of him than others) but you couldn't expect the worst defense in the league and an playmakingless offense to contend with the Cowboys.

I just go by what I see. And I don't get a good feeling about his throwing.
