Chad Pennington on Short Leash

ESPN's Tom Mortensen said coach Mangini has said Pennington will be on a short leash today.

That's the first I've heard about the coaching staff being willing to bench Pennington. If things go badly, today could be the last time Pennington starts.

Cool Re: Chad Pennington on Short Leash

It's about time. I like Chad, but just like Joe Torre, it's time to go in a different direction.

Re: Chad Pennington on Short Leash

I have never really had an opportunity to see him play too much. Did the scouts get it wrong and he wasn't that good, or did the injuries take too much from him. I thought he was supposed to be the second coming of Nameth.

Re: Chad Pennington on Short Leash

I think it was all the shoulder injuries. He's smart as any QB but he has a tough time making deep throws to the point defenses just sit on the short ones.

Even before the injuries, his arm wasn't exactly the strongest in the world. Now, it's downright weak.

That's right. He never had an arm, but he was accurate at short and mid range.

Re: Chad Pennington on Short Leash

ESPN is reporting that Pennington will start on Sunday. Anyone surprised by that move?

Re: Chad Pennington on Short Leash

The question starts to come up when the Jets stop playing for this year and see what they have in Clemons. A 1-6 team isn't going to the playoffs, no matter what they say.

Re: Chad Pennington on Short Leash

I agree. They need to start looking at their long-term plans, find out now if Clemons fits into them or not.
