Cool Re: The Three Greatest Jets Player Of All Time?

Dennis Byrd? A good player but one of the top 3?

Namath, Martin and Joe Klecko.

Honorable mention: Freeman McNeil, Al Toon, Don Maynard, Mark Gastineau, Wesley Walker, and Randy Rasmussen (Guard)

Al Toon, yeah, he was a good one. As you say, not top three material, but an generally overlooked wideout, historically speaking.

Well (A) has what you call a Super Bowl trophy to his credit...so he wins...

I go Namath, Maynard, and John Riggins...

i'm a jet fan, namath's guarantee was nice, but people remember what they choose.

With Namath, you have to look beyond the stats to the guarantee, his personality and the fact that his flamboyance coupled with that Jets victory spurred on the merger. I agree completely with you that he wasn't the best QB in the world, but he had an x-factor about him that makes him a Hall of Famer. He was a star in a league filled with football players.

oh yeah without question, the personality, the celebrity .... i'm guilty of looking at the question as if it were the most skilled jets of all time. taking a step back, greatest does not necessarily have to mean that. his importance to the organization alone would get him on the list. however, change the wording and he's off

Not only that, but he was still the best QB the Jets ever had. His problem was his injured knees kept him from putting up great numbers over a long period.

In Namath's prime, Richard Todd, Ken O' Brien, Pennington, whoever weren't a patch on Namath's fanny.

bullsh!t ... he's remembered far greater than he was, the guarantee, the commercials, etc, we basically just established that and you go and say something ridiculous.

Hey Ellison, looking solely at stats and ability, who's the best Jets QB of all time? Just curious.

Ditto. Todd or O'Brien better than Namath?

Naw, man...Joe had an arm and a half at at a time you can wrestle down a receiver...he was passing when it was 3 yards and a cloud of dust...Save your passion my good man, I am with the Pundit on this...Joe is the best QB the Jets have had...its not even close.

Dude...different eras...Joe's numbers where okay in his era...he was a 4,000 yard passer while the AFL and NFL where having trouble getting it to 2,000 yards...the Jets were at least contenders under him.

...and the argument was best Jet QB...show me another Jet QB that has had much of an effect on the team...so yeah, the Super Bowl ring argument fits...
