Cool JETS - Mess! Mess! Mess!

True enough, I can't really call my self a "long-suffering" Jets fan because when the Jets lose, I have no trouble sleeping at night. But having been too young to have any recollection of the Namath Super Bowl, it would be nice to see the Jets make the Super Bowl before I croak.

Last year I thought we had a chance but Herm Edwards, who's so conservative he makes Pat Robertson look like a bleating heart liberal, instead of playing to win the game against the Steelers, played not to lose and settled for a Doug "I'll Make All Field Goals In September But Not In January" Brien 42 yard field goal which of course - missed (By the way Chief fans, if you think Marty Schottenheimer was conservative you aint seen nothing yet).

Okay, so why don't I feel good about the New Jets Hierachy?

They hired a 35 year old head coach, who just 10 years ago, was Bill Belicheck's water boy and was such a good defensive coordinator this year in New England, that Belicheck took over the defense in the 2nd half of the year. So Eric Mangini has about 8 games total experience as a defensive coordinator.

The snatched up 32 year old Brian Schottenheimer, (Marty's son - this does not make me feel good!) as offensive coordinator who has never well...been an offensive coordinator.

And maybe worst of all, A 36 year old, General Manager who's football background is well..that he collected football cards as a kid. Mike Tannenbaum is an accountant and lawyer who managed the salary cap the last 10 years. He's never been to a combine, scouted a player, or had ANY say in personnel decisions.

Sources tell me that the Jets will shortly announce that they've hired Doogie Howser as team doctor! Who can argue? At least he's qualified!

The Jets are in rebuilding mode. Mangini would have been a highly sought after coach in the next few years, so they jump before the herd gets there.

I have no problems with who they've hired. It's a new regime and Bradway is still there to scout players. With the way the Jets are screwed (cap-wise), having Tennenbaum can't hurt.

In 2-3 years, they'll be back to a playoff contending team.
