Cool Patrick Ramsey released

JETS RELEASE BACKUP QB RAMSEY
By MARK CANNIZZARO
Quote:
March 3, 2007 -- On the first day of NFL free agency, the Jets made a subtraction, not an addition, finally releasing backup quarterback Patrick Ramsey.

Ramsey's departure has been a forgone conclusion because he was due a $1.4 million roster bonus today. That and the fact the Jets are clearly going to go with Kellen Clemens as Chad Pennington's backup in 2007 sealed Ramsey's fate.
Who did the Jets give up for Ramsey last year? What a waste.

He could be the backup QB on the "2007 All-Released Team," which now features Joey Porter at LB and Corey Dillion at RB, with Blaylock and Barlow backing him up and Joe Horn at Wide Receiver.

Re: Patrick Ramsey released

The Ramsay trade is one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time. You had Pennington and Fiedler recovering from injuries and had just lost Bollinger, if I recall correctly. The team needed a veteran QB just in case Chad wasn't good to go, and Ramsay seemed to be the best available at the time. Turns out he wasn't needed, and now he's gone, but at the time he was insurance.

Seems all I do is agree with Chuck and this is another instance. Ramsey was thought to be the starter at one time especially with Chad's injury possibly hindering him. That didn't happen, Chad became the comeback player of the year and Ramsey looks like a bad move now. What if Chad got hurt and couldn't go? Ramsey has experience and would have assumed the starting role over Clemens I believe. Ramsey was insurance for Chad's shoulder. The scenario that Ramsey starts didn't happen but like the last post by Goth said, hindsight is 20/20. I don't blame the Jets for getting Ramsey last year at all.

Now see, that just shows that you have good taste. It helps that I'm never wrong.

So what are the Jets plans for their #3 QB slot right now... veteran, late round draft pick or what?

Welcome aboard, Jets for life. Fellow Jet fan here. I don't think it really matters who their 3rd string QB is - if they ever have to use him, they're dead anyway. So they'll probably spend as little money as possible on the spot.

Re: Patrick Ramsey released

Unless the revert back to the 2005 disaster, they shouldn't need a decent third-slot QB.

This move was expected, as reported in the NY Post.
