Blaylock, Hamilton released

According to the Associated Press, "The New York Jets released running back Derrick Blaylock and defensive end Bobby Hamilton on Wednesday... The moves came two days before the NFL's free agency period was set to begin. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't yet announced the moves." With both Barlow and Blaylock gone now, it's almost a sure bet that NY will go after a tailback in either the draft or free agency -- of course, they were expected to anyway, but this just seals the deal. Do these cuts surprise you guys at all? Who replaces Blaylock and Hamilton?

Re: Blaylock, Hamilton released

WOW...they released both Blaylock and Barlow...Blaylock is at least a decent back up runner...he did well in KC...why release them both before the draft?

How many RB are there in free agency this year. Could they be making room to try to sign somebody else? I hear Jamal Lewis is available.

Jamal Lewis would be HUGE disaster for the Jets. They'd be better of with a McGahee trade or Dominic Rhodes. They are gonna draft a power runningback to compliment Leon Washington's speed and manuverability. The whole league I think took notice of the Colts/Edgerrin James situation when the Colts didn't pay James and drafted a later round back for a ton cheaper in salary and they won the SuperBowl. That big name RB who has some years on him now and is approaching 30 has become worthless to any other team but the team he is under contract to (are you listening Thomas Jones?). If Leon Washington would bulk up he would become like Tiki Barber did and then Washington/Houston would be a great tandem. Tiki was the exact type of back Washington was early in his career.
