Cool Carr to Jets?

Quote:
The Houston Texans have made it known that David Carr can be had. The New York Jets should try and find a way to bring Carr to the Big Apple.

Carr, the first overall pick in the 2002 draft, is worth a try. True, his career numbers aren't pretty. He's got six more interceptions than touchdowns and has a subpar quarterback rating of 75.5.

But sometimes, statistics can be deceiving. You have to go by what your eyes tell you, especially with a quarterback who never had time to throw. Having watched Carr play over the last five years, it's a definite that the man can pass.

During the last two years, he's played behind what is arguably the worst offensive line in football. Numerous times, before he even had time to get set in the pocket, there were defenders right in his face. Nobody can play under that kind of duress without making mistakes.

And he's tougher than nails. Carr's been sacked 249 times in his five-year career and has only missed four games because of injuries. And unlike Pennington, he has a good arm.

So, what do you Jet fans think of this idea?

Re: Carr to Jets?

He's already a five year vet. Pennington has a couple of good seasons left, I don't know if Carr could come here now and be okay with sitting for awhile.

Cool Re: Carr to Jets?

If they got Carr, they would get rid of Pennington.

Re: Carr to Jets?

All I hear is Pennington's arm this and Pennington's arm that. That arm was good enough to lead the Jets to 10 wins with virtually no running game so go pick on Eli Manning for a while!

Re: Carr to Jets?

Please no. I would feel more confident with Pennington, than this Sack-O-Rama QB. David Carr is sacked more times, than at a grocery store.

That's the point. Pennington will only lead them so far. the idea is not just to make the playoffs, but to win the Super Bowl.

And MJH - it's not Carr's fault that he's gotten sacked.

Re: Carr to Jets?

Carr's OL is horrible, but he can pick-up the legwork.

I'm still not sold on him, though.

Cool Re: Carr to Jets?

I guess it doesn't matter, anyhow. Eric Mangini has named Pennington starter. From the jetsblog.com
Quote:
Not sure why the reversal, but yesterday at the Combine, Mangini announced Chad Pennington as the starter for the 2007 Jets training camp. First here’s what he said the day after the loss to the Patriots in the playoffs:
“I think that Chad has done a terrific job. To come back from the things he came back from, to lead us the way he did, to be as effective as he was, is a real testament to who he is. He won a lot of games for us this year. I thought he did a great job. . . . But I essentially believe, as a core philosophy, competition is a positive thing.”
I mean, we all knew, even if he was the wink-wink-nod-nod starter, but check out what Mangini said at the Combine to a group of reporters.

“Chad did an outstanding job for us as the starter and he is the starter,” Mangini said. “Kellen has a better understanding of what it takes to be a starter in the NFL after spending a year in the system.
“As with every position we have, each week you have an opportunity to move forward and each year you have an opportunity to move forward. That is going to take a lot of hard work.
“Chad has done an outstanding job and he’ll be the starter going into camp.
What’s with the change of the company line? Mangini just doesn’t seem to be the guy to “let things slip.” I don’t want to overthink this too much, but I do think that Mangini has reserved the right to change his mind should the season warrant. I look forward to seeing how Chad performs next year when he doesn’t have to worry about any off-season rehab, or how to eat his Wheaties left-handed … should be interesting.

Re: Carr to Jets?

That is just for entering Training-Camp. Kellen Clemens could still take over for the season.

You can read more on my blog.

I'm gonna read your blog Marc but I know one thing...Chad Pennington is the NY Jets quarterback. If you want a backup in Carr or have Clemens pick up some more reps fine but Chad is the heart and soul of the Jets and I don't see any "heart transplant" for the next few years.

Re: Carr to Jets?

But currently they are having heart failure, as Chad struggles to return to the way he ways before his injury.

Carr would be a decent back-up, but not a starter.

Clemens is the future, here.

Chad through for 17 TDs and over 3000yds. The bad point was the 16 INTs but he admitted he had to work on that and with his work ethic I have no doubt he will. I really don't see a struggle Marc all do respect amigo. Chad was the Comeback Player Of The Year don't forget. And if Chad doesn't have the best arm (as the most overtired criticism of him is) the one thing he does have that no one can dispute is his presence on the field. He's a great leader and manages the game superbly. Doubters should note that Chad's "weak arm" led them to 10 wins with a myriad of average runningbacks. Drew Brees's arm is no stronger than Chad's and you don't hear anything about him. The main thing is if your team gets a W in the win column. If you know how to run a team's offense well and can read defenses it makes up for not having a cannon attached to your shoulder.

Re: Carr to Jets?

Chad Pennington is not the team's advocate.

Their offense was consideerably weak this past season, and their team was hanging on to the defense's coat-tails.

Chad Pennington does not have a great arm, so I would never compare him to Johnny Unitas or any of those legends. The media, though, loves to grab players in their first one or two years and compare them to greats which they shall never even come close to.

Pennington is just average, since he is nothing really special. He just so happened to come into relief for Vinny Testaverde when he had that hand injury back in training camp.

He is substantial for the direction of the organization now, but not in the future or if they hope to make a Super Bowl. And please don't refer to Rex Grossman who barely passed.

Nuke: First off, I really like Pennington. He's a class guy and has played well for the Jets. Having said that, I also realize they can never win a Super Bowl with him. When push comes to shove, opposing teams don't have to worry about him stretching the field. And although he had a great year last year, you have to take into consideration that the Jets had a really easy schedule. I think with protection, Carr can be a top 10 QB in the league.

Hey where were you in my pro-Carr debate a week ago?
