Jets To Stay With Pennington

Though he stopped short of naming Chad Pennington the starter for 2007, Mangini gushed about Pennington's performance this season, saying, "He won a lot of games for us this year. I thought he did a great job."

That he withheld a starting endorsement may seem curious, but don't read too much into it. Mangini is a stickler when it comes to preserving the sanctity of his competition-at-every-position philosophy, but know this: He did everything but anoint Pennington.

New York Daily News - Jets - Signals point to more Chad

Re: Jets To Stay With Pennington

This is one thing I really like about Mangini, he encourages competition among his players for starting jobs. Kellen Clemens will push Pennington, there's no doubt about that.

Mangini chooses the right man for the job no feelings taken into account...a lot like Belichik. The only way to run a team in my opinion!

Cool Re: Jets To Stay With Pennington

If Clemens is even close to Chad, I hope they start him and start developing him.

Re: Jets To Stay With Pennington

He's a decent starter, but not necessarily reliable. Kellen Clemens will be insurance for next season.

Well perhaps the Great Spirit blew his nose on that kleenex because Chad was the comeback player of the year and lead the 4-12 Jets to a 10-6 season. It was clear while watching the Jets that the Jets did as Chad did. Best moment of the season is when Chad was sacked landing on his shoulder and got up lifting his arms and pumping his fist to the roar of the crowd almost as if he was saying " The shoulder is fine...now lets win the damn game!" And they did!
